• Terry Bumpus

Terry grew up in Inglewood just a few blocks from the Jackson Park Church building. He attended neighborhood schools and graduated from Isaac Litton HS. While he didn't attend Jackson Park until he was baptized in 1973, there were many Jackson Park members that were influential in his childhood and teen years. He met his wife, Linda, while they were both attending what is now the University of Memphis School of Law and they were married in 1980. They have 3 daughters: Elizabeth (husband, James Parnell and son, Andrew), Caroline and Meggie. Terry and his family are involved with the City of Children orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico, and the congregation that meets in Maneadero. He has served as an elder since 2005. "

Favorite Scripture - John 15:12 | "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you."

I like it because it reminds me of the great sacrificial love Jesus had for each one of us and at the same time sets the bar very high for how we are to treat each other.

Favorite Scripture - Romans 12:9-21 | It teaches about relationships and how they should be.  Verse nine says  "love must be sincere" and then the following verses gives us examples of how to love sincerely.

  • Tom Herrod

Tom grew up at Jackson Park and was baptized here by Joe Sanders when I was 13 years old. I graduated from Isaac Litton HS and Vanderbilt University and began my professional career at DuPont - Old Hickory in 1973. Donna and I married in 1977 and raised our children - Lindsay, Adam, and Krista - at this congregation. I was blessed to have baptized each of them and have watched them grow and mature into wonderful Christian adults. It's been a distinct privilege for me to have been a part of such a great congregation for more than a half century and to have served as an elder in the Lord's church for over a decade.

Favorite Scripture - Genesis 1:1 | "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth"

Why? The simplicity, brevity, and beauty of that one verse in explaining "from whence we came and whose we are."
